From TV Producer to ADHD Coach: My Story

Working in television was always a rush – fast-paced shoots, constant location changes combined with the thrill of capturing perfect shots – I was really good at it all. Although I was unaware at the time, the industry naturally fed my ADHD brain’s craving for novelty and dopamine hits. When I moved into the edit suite I thrived on quick turnarounds, rapid-fire decision-making, and writing scripts on the fly.

But behind that energetic facade, I was quietly battling anxiety.

Every small critique felt like a personal blow due to rejection sensitivity dysphoria (RSD). Time blindness led to constant fear of procrastination, and the pressure to mask my struggles became overwhelming. After each project, I’d retreat into myself, exhausted from maintaining the appearance of effortless productivity.

The Turning Point


My discovery of ADHD within our whole family began unexpectedly with a Facebook post from a family member sharing their own experience. Curious to learn more, I attended an ADHD art exhibition that would change everything.  There was an exhibit where visitors could listen to a recording of a woman with ADHD reading her old school reports: “She could do so much better if she would only focus”; “She is wasting her potential”; “She won’t concentrate in class”; “If only she would listen”.

When my husband removed the headphones, his eyes were filled with emotion. “This is me” he said simply. In that powerful moment, I knew I had to help others see that people with ADHD are so much more than these negative words that have followed them through life.

What started as a curious conversation with my husband about ADHD symptoms evolved into a transformative discovery for our entire family. Through this personal revelation, I realised how many other people could be going through exactly the same things as us, and I found my calling in ADHD coaching

How TV Production Prepared Me for Coaching

The transition from being a television producer into an ADHD coach feels natural because both roles share core skills:

– Adapting quickly to changing situations
– Connecting authentically with diverse people
– Building and coordinating supportive teams
 
Just as I once worked behind the scenes to bring creative ideas to your screen, I now work alongside clients to help them discover innovative solutions to their challenges.

A Foundation in Professional Excellence

Committed to providing the highest ethical and professional standards in coaching, I pursued rigorous training through ADDCA (ADD Coach Academy) and am currently working toward accreditation from both the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and Professional Association for ADHD Coaches (PAAC).

ADHD in the TV Industry

Since learning about ADHD, I’ve connected with lots of tv industry professionals who share similar experiences to me. It’s no coincidence that television attracts neurodivergent and creative minds—the dynamic environment draws us in, though it can be challenging without proper support systems.
 
Today, I still adore the television industry, but I’m also very passionate about helping others learn to work with their ADHD brains, not against them. You don’t have to mask or burn out to succeed. Through coaching, I help clients develop strategies to:

– Navigate workplace challenges
