Frequently asked questions
Since you might never have experienced a life coaching session, or at least not for issues you might be facing with ADHD, here I answer a few frequently asked questions that I encounter on a more or less regular basis.
What is ADHD Coaching?
The definition of ADHD coaching is:
“An ongoing collaborative partnership between a person with ADHD traits, and a professional coach who brings current ADHD knowledge, best practices, understanding, and ADHD-friendly skills and tools to facilitate positive personal and professional change for the client.
ADHD coaches create a safe, non-judgmental environment, listen with an ADHD understanding, observe what is preventing the client from reaching specific goals, explore ways in which the client can maximize strengths, talents, and passion, and enlist strategies and behaviours congruent with the ADHD client’s learning, processing, and organization styles”
From PAAC, (the Professional Association of ADHD Coaches – https://paaccoaches.org)
How is ADHD coaching different from therapy?
ADHD coaching focuses on the practical future orientated solutions to everyday challenges that occur in areas such as work, relationships or daily routines.
Traditionally, therapy is about emotional healing and psychological patterns rooted in the past. Coaches do not diagnose or treat mental health disorders but can work alongside a client having therapy.
Who can benefit from ADHD coaching?
ADHD coaching can help anyone who has been diagnosed with ADHD to provide structure and support in their everyday lives. It can also support anyone who struggles with the following:
– Procrastination
– Prioritisation
– Disorganisation
– Time Blindness
– Impulsivity
– Overwhelm and Burnout
What should I look for in an ADHD coach?
It’s really important that you use an ADHD coach who has ICF (International Coaching Federation) and PAAC (Professional Association of ADHD Coaches) accredited training. Currently, ADDCA (ADD Coach Academy) is the only training program that is accredited by both. You should also look for a coach that resonates with you, by talking to them first via a discovery call.
I think I have ADHD but haven’t been diagnosed, can I still get a coach?
Yes, a lot of my clients suspect they have ADHD but haven’t been diagnosed. Our work together will be looking towards strategies to help you navigate through life.
How many sessions should I book?
I normally request that a client work alongside me for a minimum of 3 months in order to really start to make some progress but the total length of coaching can range from 3 months to 3 years, depending on what you want to get out of coaching.
What do the sessions cost?
I am currently offering a discounted rate while I work towards my ICF and PAAC qualifications. For now I am offering sessions at £50 per session. I also have other payment options, so please do get in touch to discuss.
What age ranges do you work with?
I currently only work with individuals who are 18+ years or older. For under 18, I provide an ADHD mentoring service. Please get in touch with me to find out more.
